FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS FAQ'S PART 1

Question: The entry application states that no project with a safety-related fatality can receive consideration for an award. We had a fatality on our project due to employee neglegence. The Subcontractor was cited by OSHA with a serious violation but we as the general contractor were not cited.

Answer:
No project with a safety related injury or fatality may be accepted for the competition.

Question:
Can you please tell me when the judging for Excellence in Construction will take place and when the winners will be announced?

Answer:
Judging takes place shortly after the deadline for submissions. After judging takes place and winners are decided, the winning company's chapter is called so that the chief executive of that chapter may inform the winner. The winners will also receive an email from ABC National with important information. Those not receiving a Merit or Eagle are notified via email within a month of the judging. No public announcement of the winners is to be made until after the national awards ceremony. At that time press releases are sent to winning companies along with a photograph taken at the ceremony to begin the formal announcements.

Question:
I heard that we won an award ...I would like to get the copy of our submission back if that's ok. Mainly I can use the photos if you can return those. If you have a chance to fax me the official letter that would be great. Thanks!

Answer:
Once you submit your binder to ABC National for the competition, the binder becomes the property of the national association. We do this so that we have all of the materials we need to design and execute the awards ceremony, do follow up stories in ABC publications, and create press releases and other appropriate PR regarding the winning projects. All binders are displayed at the awards ceremony at convention. From time to time chapters who wish to start Excellence in Construction programs will need these as examples of winning entries.

Question: Can you send me any information regarding eligibility, entry forms, etc, for your Excellence in Construction Awards?

Answer:
The current year's form is always posted on the web site on the Excellence in Construction page www.abc.org/eic. The application contains all of the information regarding eligibility.

Question:  My company is submitting multiple projects for awards.  Do I have to send a separate check for each project fee?

Answer:  Please submit just one check, including the entry fees for all projects.  Please include a COPY of that check with each binder.

Question: I am sending out our entry today to arrive tomorrow, however I need a tax ID number to get a check to you.

Answer:
If you require a Tax ID number for your check, email eic@abc.org with the request.

Question:  I received an award at the chapter level, but it was not first place.  Are we eligible to enter the national competition?

Answer:  Projects that win at both the first and second place levels at a chapter competition are eligible to enter the national competition.

Question: Will you accept a project from a member when the project did not win at the chapter level program?

Answer:
No. The only non-winning entry we will accept has to come from a member who's chapter does not conduct a local program.
