NCCER To Alter Certification Terminology In 2013

NCCER on Aug. 23 announced that it is modifying its certification terminology to clarify that a certified craft professional has successfully completed both the written and performance aspects of the National Craft Assessment and Certification Program. As part of the change, beginning Jan. 1, 2013, NCCER will use the term “Knowledge Verified” on NCCER documentation to refer to candidates who successfully pass the written assessment for the first time.

Neither the written assessments craft professionals must pass to obtain this credential, nor the benefits and recognition currently provided for being “Certified Written” will change. For craft professionals who earn the “Certified Written” credential before the change becomes effective, NCCER will continue to acknowledge that terminology until Jan. 1, 2015.
