Each year, ABC presents the Craft Instructor of the Year (CITY) Award to an instructor who possesses outstanding
creativity, a positive attitude and the ability to transfer knowledge through good communication skills and innovative teaching to promote life-long learning to our future workforce. The recipient of this national award best embodies the merit shop ideals through superior effort and talent as recognized by others.
The national winner will receive:
- A cash prize of $3,500 from the Trimmer Education Foundation
- A notebook computer and leather jacket from the NCCER
- A Craft Instructor of the Year trophy
- Airfare and hotel accommodations to attend the ABC National Convention in San Diego, Cali.
- One complimentary convention registration (valued at approx. $760)
- National recognition through numerous industry publications
Regional winners will receive:
- Regional Craft Instructor of the Year plaque
- National recognition through numerous industry publications
All other nominees will receive an ABC recognition certificate.
On December 15, 2009, regional winners will be announced via an emailed news release to chapters and nominators. From this pool, a panel of judges will select the national winner who will be invited to attend the 2010 ABC National Convention in San Diego, Cali., and will be announced during the Construction Careers Awards Breakfast on Saturday, February 6, 2010.
Nominees for the Craft Instructor of the Year Award must:
Currently teach a construction trade at an ABC chapter, training affiliate or ABC member firm.
- Previously taught a construction trade for a minimum of three continuous years or possess equivalent instructor experience.
Note: Prior national and regional Craft Instructor of the Year winners are ineligible.
The 2010 Craft Instructor of the Year Award is sponsored by the Trimmer Education Foundation, in partnership with the National Center for Construction Education and Research (NCCER).
