Each year, ABC presents the Craft Professional of the Year (CPOY) Award to an individual who stands out from the rest, setting the standard for professionals in their craft by exhibiting pride and leadership. The recipient of this national award demonstrates a passion for the trade and working with one’s hands to benefit both the construction industry and the greater community, a master of skills whose commitment to excellence has made this individual the ultimate example of merit shop success in the field.
The national winner will receive:
- A new, full-size pickup truck sponsored by Tradesmen International, Inc.
- A Craft Professional of the Year trophy
- National recognition for winner and nominating company in various industry publications and other related media
Craft category winners will receive:
- Craft category Craft Professional of the Year plaque
- An invitation to attend the 2009 ABC National Convention for the final interview process
- One complimentary convention registration (valued at $760)
- National recognition for winners and nominating companies in various industry publications and other related media
All other nominees will receive an ABC recognition certificate.
On January 12, craft category winners will be announced via an emailed news release to chapters and nominators. From this pool, a panel of judges will conduct a final interview onsite at the ABC National Convention. Craft category winners will be recognized and the national winner will be announced during the Construction Careers Awards Breakfast on Saturday, February 28.
Nominees for the Craft Professional of the Year Award must:
Currently employed by an ABC member firm.
- Approximately 90 percent of daily job duties and responsibilities include either daily use of tools, processes and equipment, or direct field supervision of trade craftspeople using tools.
- Currently possess journey-level designation as defined by his/her current employer.
Note: Office, corporate or management personnel (including project managers/ engineers, sales representatives, estimators or other non-field positions) are ineligible. Previous national or craft category Craft Professional of the Year winners are ineligible.
