With Hurricane Florence approaching the East Coast, OSHA is reminding contractors of resources to help keep construction workers safe during natural disasters. Hurricane season peaks in September, and wildfires are still burning throughout the Pacific Northwest and from California to Colorado. OSHA urges employers to be prepared to keep their workers safe during extreme weather events. The agency’s Emergency Preparedness and Response webpage provides information on protecting workers before and after hurricanes, wildfires, tornadoes, floods and other natural disasters strike.

In addition, ABC’s Construction Executive magazine just published an article on the top 10 hurricane preparedness practices for construction sites, which highlights the advantages of preparing early in order to ensure the safety of team members as well as surrounding communities.

With residents of the East Coast facing displacement and evacuating low-lying coastal areas, the American Red Cross will be working diligently to help hurricane victims. ABC's disaster relief fund through the Red Cross is available for anyone who wants to help support these efforts with a monetary donation.

Please encourage your members and staff to visit ABC National’s webpage on emergency preparedness and recovery resources for detailed information on how to quickly access state and federal resources.
