The U.S. House of Representatives passed an amended version of the Restoring Americans’ Healthcare Freedom Reconciliation Act (H.R. 3762) Jan. 6, which would repeal several, job-killing provisions in the Affordable Care Act. The same version of the bill passed the Senate 52-47 in Dec. 2015.

Ahead of both votes, ABC sent letters to members of the House and Senate urging them to support H.R. 3762. The bill would, among many things, cripple the employer mandate by eliminating penalties for failure to comply. The legislation would also repeal the Health Insurance Tax and restrictions on contributions to Flexible Spending Accounts, which would better allow employers to provide quality health insurance to its employees at an affordable rate.

In the letter, ABC explained, “Since the enactment of the law more than five years ago, the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (PPACA) continues to create uncertainty and confusion in the construction industry, making it difficult for the nation’s contractors to plan for the future and create jobs. Being forced to provide government-prescribed health insurance means that ABC members no longer have the choice or flexibility to structure health care coverage options that meet the needs of their fluctuating workforce.”

Despite overwhelming support from small business owners, President Obama vetoed the bill Jan. 8.
