Congress Votes to Permanently Block Illegal ‘Blacklisting’ Rule

ABC applauded the U.S. Senate for joining the U.S. House of Representatives in passing legislation (H.J. Res. 37) that will block implementation of the Obama administration’s controversial Fair Pay and Safe Workplaces Executive Order 13673, commonly referred to as “blacklisting,” through the Congressional Review Act (CRA). 

President Trump Issues Executive Order to Rein in Overreaching Waters of the U.S. Rule

ABC praised President Trump for issuing an executive order requiring the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) to revise the controversial Waters of theUnited States rule on Feb. 28. The rule had been previously been blocked under a nationwide stay issued by the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit.


New ABC Diversity Website Goes Live

ABC’s membership strategy is to continuously grow and deliver value to a diverse and committed membership. To help with this effort, ABC launched its new diversity page during the association's Workforce Week '17 Conference the week of Feb. 27. Associated Builders and Contractors (ABC) announced the winners of the National Craft Championships, the 2016 National Safety Awards, the National Diversity Excellence Awards and the Excellence in Construction® Awards during its annual conference Workforce Week ’17 in Fort Lauderdale, Fla. Workforce Week is ABC's annual celebration of the best in merit shop construction, recognizing the contributions of members, chapters and craft professionals to the construction industry and their dedication to excellence.

2017 National Craft Championships Winners Announced

ABC congratulated the winners of its 30th annual National Craft Championships competition during the March 3 Careers in Constructions awards held during the association’s Workforce Week Conference, Feb, 28-March 3, in Fort Lauderdale, Fla.

Congress Takes Action to Reform Health Care

On March 6, as part of the U.S. House of Representatives Republicans' American Health Care Act, the House Committees on Ways and Means and Energy and Commerce issued proposals to repeal and replace the Affordable Care Act. The committees will mark up their bills on Wednesday, March 8 and then send the proposals to the Budget Committee.

ABC Member Accepted into SHARP Ranks

ABC member M&D Mechanical Contractors, Inc. of Decatur, Ala. placed themselves in an elite group of small businesses by earning a prestigious Safety & Health Achievement Recognition Program (SHARP) certification from the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA). The SHARP program recognizes small businesses that serve as a model for worksite safety and health and have used OSHA's On-site Consultation Program services and operate an exemplary injury and illness prevention program.

Take Action: Help Stop the Obama Administration’s Burdensome Blacklisting Rule

ABC is encouraging all members to call on their Representative to support H.J. Res. 37, introduced by U.S. House Education and Workforce Committee Chairwoman Virginia Foxx (R-N.C.), House Small Business Committee Chairman Steve Chabot (R-Ohio), and House Oversight and Government Reform Committee Chairman Jason Chaffetz (R-Utah). The resolution provides for congressional disapproval under the Congressional Review Act (CRA) to invalidate the Federal Acquisition Regulatory (FAR) Council and U.S. Department of Labor's (DOL) "blacklisting" rule and guidance implementing President Obama's Fair Pay and Safe Workplaces Executive Order 13673.
