Democrats Come Out Against Workers' Rights

The 2012 Democratic Party Platform, which was formally adopted by convention delegates on Sept. 4 in Charlotte, N.C., launches a direct attack against workers’ rights. Language in the platform states: “We will fight for labor laws that provide a fair process for workers to choose union representation.” However, the next sentence states: “We will continue to vigorously oppose ‘Right-to-Work’ and ‘paycheck protection’ efforts, and so-called ‘Save our Secret Ballot’ measures whenever they are proposed.”

GOP Demands An End To Project Labor Agreements

Delegates at the 2012 Republican National Convention in Tampa, Fla., Aug. 28, formally adopted the party’s national platform. Contained in the 54-page document is language that “demands an end to project labor agreements.”

NLRB Appeals Court Decision To Overturn Ambush Elections Ruling

The National Labor Relations Board (NLRB) Aug. 7 filed an appeal against the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia’s May 14 decision to overturn the board’s ambush elections rule because it was adopted without the statutorily required quorum of members. 

Senate Democrats Vote To Pass Small Business Tax Hike

The U.S. Senate July 25 voted 51 to 48 to pass the Middle Class Tax Cut Act of 2012 (S. 3412), which, if enacted, would result in a massive tax increase on business income, capital investment and family succession. In addition, the Senate voted 45 to 54 against theABC-supported Hatch-McConnell Amendment to S. 3412 that would have forestalled the looming fiscal cliff facing America’s job creators. 

ABC Offers Health Care Solutions After House Votes To Repeal Obamacare

After the U.S. House of Representatives passed the Repeal of Obamacare Act (H.R. 6079) on July 11, ABC offered practical, common-sense health care solutions and continued to advocate for full repeal of the health care law.
