Funding Resolution Signed That Includes DOL Restrictions On H-2B And MSD Rules

President Obama Sept. 28 signed into law a continuing appropriation resolution (H.J. Res. 117) that will fund the Department of Labor (DOL), National Labor Relations Board (NLRB) and the Equal Opportunity Commission for the first six months of fiscal year 2013, but that also includes restrictions on actions by DOL. Coalition Submits Letter On Implementation Of The Health Care Law

As part of the Employers for Flexibility in Health Care (EFHC) coalition, ABC Sept. 27 submitted comments regarding implementation of the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (PPACA) – specifically, on determining full-time employee status and the application of the 90-day waiting period limitation. OSHA Adds Four New OTI Centers And Renews 24 Existing Centers

The Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) Sept. 28 announced it added four new OSHA Training Institute (OTI) Education Centers in addition to renewing 24 existing centers. Among the renewed centers is the Mid-America OTI Education Center out of Springboro, Ohio, which is affiliated with the ABC Ohio Valley Chapter. Read the rest of entry »

DOL Announces Electronic Filing For H-2B Visas

ABC PAC On Pace To Eclipse $1.8 Million

House Passes Bill Overriding EPA Regulation of Coal Ash

The U.S. House of Representatives Sept. 19 passed the Stop the War on Coal Act (H.R. 3409), a package of bills that benefits the construction industry by preventing drastic increases in energy costs, avoiding the disruption of crucial supply chains and preserving existing jobs. House Judiciary Committee Hearing Addresses Regulatory Reform

In response to a U.S. House of Representatives’ Judiciary Committee hearing titled, “Regulation Nation: The Obama Administration’s Regulatory Expansion vs. Jobs and Economic Recovery,” ABC Sept. 20 called for comprehensive regulatory reform and offered its support for a series of bills that will help achieve that goal. ABC To Hold Two Construction Management Competitions And Career Fairs In 2013

ABC recently announced it will be moving its annual ABC Student Chapter Construction Management Competition (CMC) and Career Fair to the fall beginning in 2014. As part of the transition, these events will be held twice in 2013, in both the spring and the fall.
