ABC March 14 awarded Chapter Diversity Initiative Grants (CDIG) to four ABC chapters committed to developing long-term diversity programs that support the strategic initiatives of ABC. To be eligible for the grants, chapters had to satisfy six critical elements: partnering with local organizations representing minorities or women, maintaining a commitment from leadership, using effective practices, securing additional resources from strategic partners, developing models on effective approaches and measuring results.
The four ABC chapters receiving grants are:
ABC Eastern Pennsylvania - $10,000 The Ready 4 Work program is a local partnership between the ABC Eastern Pennsylvania Chapter and inner city churches that provides construction skills training to “at risk” youth and lower income adults.
ABC of Indiana - $10,000 ABC Indiana is partnering with the United North East Community Development Corporation to provide community outreach and recruit African Americans to participate in construction-related classroom training and on-the-job experience.
ABC of North Texas - $10,000 ABC North Texas’ Contractors Development Alliance is supporting the Mentor-Protégé and Contractor Incubator programs. The Mentor-Protégé program provides assistance to emerging construction firms and the Contractor Incubator program offers education and training to minority- and women-owned construction companies.
ABC Southeast Pennsylvania - $8,600
ABC Southeast Pennsylvania’s program, in partnership with the National Minority Contractors Association, provides scholarships for minority employees of minority-owned companies.
The grant funding is intended to cover a 12-month period with quarterly reporting. The deadline for the next CDIG application is June 30.
