ABC APPOINTS GEOFFREY BURR AS VICE PRESIDENT OF GOVERNMENT AFFAIRS  (11/19/2008)
Proest ABC Nov. 18 named Geoffrey Burr vice president of its Government Affairs division. Burr, who recently served as deputy assistant secretary in the U.S. Department of Labor’s Office of Congressional and Intergovernmental Affairs and was a former ABC staff member, will oversee and direct the political, legislative and regulatory departments of the Government Affairs division, as well as provide guidance to the association’s leadership on ABC’s legal rights foundation and political action committee.

“Geoff’s understanding of the commercial and industrial construction industry and outstanding political experience will benefit our members tremendously as we continue to advance the Merit Shop construction philosophy,” said Kirk Pickerel, ABC president and CEO. “It is great to have Geoff back with us on the ABC team.”

As deputy assistant secretary in the U.S. Department of Labor’s Office of Congressional and Intergovernmental Affairs, Burr focused on presidential initiatives and a wide range of major labor issues. Prior to that, he managed congressional outreach on a variety of issues, including workforce development, temporary worker visa programs and disaster relief, as senior legislative officer at the Department of Labor. Burr spent nearly six years as ABC’s director of legislative affairs – focusing on immigration, energy, tort and regulatory reform – and as ABC’s state affairs coordinator and legal coordinator.

Burr has a Bachelor of Arts degree in government from The College of William and Mary in Williamsburg, Va. He and his wife, Danielle, live in Arlington, Va.
