Washington, D.C. – Associated Builders and Contractors (ABC) today launched a new website, GreenConstructionAtWork.com, to serve as a resource for members of the construction industry who want to learn more about sustainable or “green” building practices.

GreenConstructionAtWork.com offers information on how to find and access funding for retrofitting or purchasing construction equipment to become more environmentally friendly as well as industry news, a calendar of upcoming events and information on the U.S. Green Building Council’s Leadership in Energy and Design (LEED) green building rating system.  In addition, the site contains tips on how to green jobsites, offices and homes.  To learn 10 actions you can take now to help the environment and celebrate Earth Day, visit GreenConstructionAtWork.com.

“Being green means keeping an intentional focus on actions that preserve natural resources for future generations as we live, work and build,” said ABC President and CEO Kirk Pickerel. “ABC’s goal is to provide resources and advocate for smart energy policies and legislation in order to advance the ability of contractors to support their customers and thrive in the green building industry.”

Green building is the practice of increasing the efficiency of buildings to use resources such as energy, water and materials, while reducing the impact on human health and the environment during the building’s lifecycle, from the design and construction phase to operation, maintenance and removal.  According to the Environmental Protection Agency, buildings account for 39 percent of total energy usage.  Utilizing green building practices can help improve air and water quality and conserve and restore natural resources while reducing operating costs and creating, expanding and shaping markets for green products and services.
