Washington, D.C. – Associated Builders and Contractors (ABC) has named Bob Piper to a new position as vice president of industry relations.  Since 2004, Piper had served as ABC’s vice president of workforce development.

In his new position, Piper will be responsible for enhancing ABC’s alliances with organizations both in and outside of the industry, as well as establishing new strategic partnerships with other organizations.

“Bob brings a wealth of experience to his new role, assisting ABC in its important national outreach efforts,” said ABC Chief Operating Officer Todd Mann.

“This position was created as a result of a new organizational model developed and implemented by ABC, beginning at the end of last year, in which all functions have been organized around the customers served,” Mann said.  “By eliminating traditional divisions and placing all responsibilities into distinct customer service groups, we increase our opportunity to deliver value that is determined by our different constituencies.”

In his previous position, Piper and his staff were responsible for the full range of ABC’s workforce development programs; including the National Craft Championships’; student chapter activities and competitions; ABC’s Safety, Training and Evaluation Process program; and the Trimmer Education Foundation, which provides scholarships and grants in support of construction education and workforce development initiatives in colleges, universities and ABC chapters nationwide.

Before joining ABC, Piper was founder and co-owner of Piper Electric Co. Inc., Arvada, Colo., for 21 years and actively involved in ABC on the state, regional and national levels, culminating with service as an ABC regional vice chairman in 2003-2004.
