For the past seven years, Faith Technologies, Menasha, Wis., has held events and fundraisers supporting the efforts of the United Way, which uses donations to help community members achieve success through education, income stability and health. In 2012 alone, employees raised more than $10,000 and the company donated nearly $5,000 to the organization.

James Hardie will help get the rebuilding process off to a running start for homeowners and their residential contractors with two raffles of James Hardie products at the event, to be held at Breezy Point Lumber, 28 E. Market St, Breezy Point, N.Y. The event will be hosted by Family-to-Family, Inc., along with Breezy Point Lumber and Breezy Point Hardware, and will run from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. EDT.

Upon winning the contract to build a new affordable housing complex for the nonprofit Passage Home, North Carolina-based Monteith Construction Corp. was determined to find a way to support the organization’s mission of ending the cycle of poverty and homelessness by giving a hand up, not a handout. To incorporate the group’s emphasis on self-reliance and empowerment, Monteith Construction proposed a mentoring program in which the firm would hire local residents to help build the Passage Home—providing them with a skill set that would position them to find more work in the future.
