ABC President and CEO Mike Bellaman and ABC IDE National Committee Chair Brad Lewis share practical ways leaders can create a productive, inclusive, diverse and equitable work environment that creates the conditions for all to achieve.

Michael D. Bellaman has served as president and chief executive officer of Associated Builders and Contractors, a national trade association representing more than 21,000 members from 69 chapters across the United States, since 2011. In his role, Bellaman leverages the merit shop philosophy to help members develop people, win work and deliver that work safely, ethically and profitably for the betterment of the communities in which they work.

Brad Lewis, MCA, has more than 20 years of experience in the construction industry with Hensel Phelps. He started as a field engineer and working his way up to a superintendent position, where he learned the importance of fostering relationships with owners, trade partners, community leaders and vendors to enhance project and community initiatives. Lewis is the chair of the ABC Inclusion Diversity and Equity Committee, which he has served on for eight years.

Bias is a natural part of the human condition. It affects how we make decisions, engage with others and respond to various situations and circumstances, often limiting potential. Learn to identify bias where it shows up in our own thinking and in our workplaces, cultivate connections with those around us to expand our understanding and moving forward with courage as we engage with care and boldness in addressing biases that limit our potential.

Tia Perry  serves as a strategic thought leader to advance ABC’s IDE strategy, including the measurement and monitoring of the association’s initiatives and development of new programs and practices that effectively increase IDE awareness. Perry is currently an American Society of Association Executives Diversity Executive Leadership Program Scholar and has the completed the University of South Florida’s Diversity, Equity and Inclusion in the Workplace Certificate Program. She also is a certified Franklin Covey Unconscious Bias Facilitator.

Peggy Del Fabbro, is the the 5th generation of the Davis family leading the 151-yearold firm, which is certified as a Woman Owned Business by the Women’s Business Enterprise National Council. A 20-year veteran in leadership roles at the M. Davis & Sons, she works to distinguish the construction company in the marketplace through an unwavering commitment to safety and quality and a forward-thinking approach to sustainability and the future of construction.

Pat Patterson, Supplier diversity professional Pat Patterson founded Elysium Enterprises, a consulting firm established to support the growth of an inclusive culture in supply chain within the business industry. Prior to Elysium Patterson spent 25 years at Verizon Communications. His last ten years with Verizon were spent in various supplier diversity roles and responsibilities, partnering with multiple organizations and executives enterprise-wide. In his 25 years with Verizon, he held key roles in global diversity and inclusion, real estate, construction, regional staff positions, along with his engineering responsibilities with Empire City Subway Company, a Verizon subsidiary.
