ABC Pushes Back on Biden’s Pro-PLA Policies Through the Media

ABC continued to fight against government-mandated project labor agreements through a media campaign publicizing a letter recently sent to the White House with more than 1,200 signatures from members and chapters. The campaign garnered coverage of the importance of fair and open competition for construction projects on Fox Business (reach: 13.5 million) and in The Washington Post (67.7 million), among others.

The letter, sent on April 6, voices ABC’s strong opposition to President Biden’s Executive Order 14063 mandating project labor agreements on federal public works projects exceeding $35 million. It also lays out concerns with and other federal agency policies promoting PLAs on federally assisted construction projects, which would affect the allocation of funds under the $1.2 trillion bipartisan infrastructure package that was signed into law last year, as well as other laws providing funds for state and local governments to improve its infrastructure.

Washington Post columnist Joe Davidson interviewed ABC’s Ben Brubeck and covered the letter in his April 14 column on PLAs, “Construction firms hit Biden labor agreement plan that unions praise.”

On April 18, Brubeck appeared on Fox Business to discuss the letter and the Biden administration’s inflationary pro-PLA policies that are a lose-lose for taxpayers and the construction industry.

ABC’s April 6 news release on the letter details coalition and lawmaker efforts to fight government-mandated PLAs. The federal anti-PLA coalition website BuildAmericaLocal.com has studies, media coverage, op-eds, a social media kit and coalition letters as well as a grassroots portal for members and the public to engage on this issue.
