ABC and Build Your Future Hold Construction Education Events

As a part of the Build Your Future (BYF) Careers in Construction Week, ABC chapters and members supported two construction career events in Texas to encourage students to explore opportunities in construction careers.

The ABC Greater Houston Chapter teamed up with the Construction Education and Maintenance Foundation to sponsor the Oct. 30 Construction Careers Expo in Houston. More than 400 students gathered to learn more about crafts through demonstrations in concrete finishing, personal protective equipment, insulating pipe, scaffolding and more. The event also included multiple competitions and simulators. Additionally, students heard from NASCAR driver, David Starr, who began his career with a technical education.

BYF also teamed up with the Construction Education Foundation of North Texas and North Lake College at the second annual Construction Career Day in Irving, Texas. ABC’s TEXO Chapter sponsored and provided volunteers for the event. Local construction employers spoke with the students and demonstrated their crafts, to bring awareness to the educational tracks and on-the-job experience available in the construction industry. More than 700 students participated.

The Careers in Construction Week also included construction career events in Baton Rouge, La., Plaquemine, La., Greer, S.C., Lexington, S.C., and Pittsburg, Kan.
