Attorney's Conference To Address The Election, Health Care And The NLRB

The 2012 ABC Attorneys Conference is a must-attend event for attorneys counseling merit shop contractors. The content-rich program covers the latest developments and insights impacting labor law and open competition in the construction industry. The conference also is an opportunity for CLE credits (upon request). The conference will be held Dec. 5-7 in Washington D.C. To view the complete agenda and register now, visit www.abc.org/attorneys.

The Attorneys Conference agenda includes a session about the impact of the November elections on the merit shop, information about health care reform and the new obligations employers face, and updates regarding the National Labor Relations Board (NLRB), including a luncheon featuring current NLRB Chairman Mark G. Pearce. During the luncheon, attendees will hear from Pearce on his views about NLRB decisions and policies impacting the construction industry, and the direction he thinks the board is heading in the coming year.

During the conference, attendees will learn about the current state of union organizing laws. This year, the NLRB and the Department of Labor led unprecedented efforts to change the rules and case law on union organizing in ways that appeared to help promote labor’s agenda.

Further, in a session titled “Election Aftermath: The Impact of the November Elections on the Merit Shop,” ABC National staff will provide meaningful insights into the 2012 presidential, congressional and state election results, and their likely impacts in Washington, D.C., and around the country.

In addition, Gregory J. Ossi, Esq., an attorney at Venable LLP, will talk about the new obligations employers face when dealing with health insurance for employees and will discuss political, legal and compliance issues in a session titled, “ Health Care Reform: What’s Next for Construction Industry Employers?”
