The National Institute of Building Sciences buildingSMART alliance is hosting a series of webinars in July on how to submit a ballot for the National BIM Standard – United States™ Version 3 (NBIMS-US V3) review period that all building professionals are invited to participate in. Ballot submissions are due Aug. 19.

The three identical webinars will be held July 5, 19 and 26 at 2 p.m. (ET) and each will:

  • Provide an overview of the balloting module
  • Provide an overview of the process for posting a ballot submission
  • Explain how to track the status of ballot submissions
  • Review how to comment on ballot submissions
Because BIM covers all aspects of the building process, the buildingSMART alliance is encouraging representatives from every segment of the industry to participate in the development of the standard—even if they have not been involved in the process before.

Since NBIMS Version 1-Part 1 was first released in 2007, the content of the standard has evolved, including information exchange standards for construction operations and product specifications. NBIMS-US™ V2 is a consensus-based standard and includes reference standards, information exchange standards (which are built on the reference standards) and best practice guidelines to support users in their implementation of open BIM standards-based deliverables.
