The Political Assistant works with the Senior Director of Political Affairs and the national government affairs team to advance the merit shop legislative agenda by utilizing all political and issue advocacy resources. The Political Assistant also works with staff to assist with fundraising contribution receipts, compliance, and disbursements, in coordination with contributors and state chapters. They are also tasked with managing and facilitating fundraising events across the country and ABC’s annual Legislative Conference.

DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES

Responsibilities:

ABC PAC

  • Works with the Senior Director of Political Affairs to execute ABC’s political and fundraising strategy.
  • Assist with the development of the ABC PAC donor pipeline and solicitation of prospective and sustaining donors.
  • Draft donor communications including emails, briefings, call sheets, thank you notes, etc.
  • Manage ABC PAC databases and work with national and chapter staff to track prior authorizations, reach out to donors, pull reports, address technical issues, etc.
  • Oversee the printing and shipment of ABC PAC badges and donor collateral.
  • Help with candidate interviews and collection and organization of ABC PAC questionnaires, in cooperation with lobbyists.
  • Works with Government Affairs Team to plan and execute PAC fundraising events at National and state-based meetings.
  • Join PAC meetings as appropriate and take meeting minutes and action items.

Free Enterprise Alliance

  • Works with the Senior Director of Political Affairs to execute ABC’s issue advocacy campaign and fundraising strategy.
  • Assist with the development of the FEA donor pipeline and solicitation of prospective and sustaining donors.
  • Manage ABC PAC databases and work with national and chapter staff to track prior authorizations, reach out to donors, pull reports, address technical issues, etc.
  • Draft donor communications including emails, briefings, call sheets, thank you notes, etc.
  • Track FEA donations and donors, in tandem with the ABC finance team, for staff and FEA committee members.
  • Works with Government Affairs Team to plan and execute FEA fundraising events at National and state-based meetings.
  • Join FEA meetings as appropriate and take meeting minutes and action items.

General

  • Assists state chapters, chapter staff, and National staff with political affairs and fundraising as needed.
  • Works with team to develop materials needed to communicate political and issue advocacy campaigns to chapter staff and members.
  • Works with legal counsel to uphold ABC’s compliance standards.
  • Track yearly and cycle goals and regularly communicate progress with the members of the government affairs team.
  • Assists in the planning process and implementation of political and fundraising events at chapter and national meetings.
  • Works with the Communications team on editing donor communications.
  • Facilitate aspects of ABC’s annual Legislative Week.
  • Work alongside ABC Public Affairs department to write and facilitate columns for Newsline and Construction Executive.

Other

  • Report progress on the Government Affairs team’s strategic goals in Leadership Update and the balanced scorecard.
  • Edit and update the ABC website and national connections with relevant legislative and political information.
  • Other duties as necessary and assigned to support ABC’s merit shop philosophy.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree (B.A.) from an accredited four-year college or university required.
  • Two (2) years of working experience in a professional environment required.
  • Prior experience as a Political Affairs Assistant or similar role, preferred.

Specialized Skills:

  • Demonstrated use of intermediate computer operations (basic programming, relational databases and operating systems) and intermediate software packages.

Salary

$52,500 - $54,600

Work Environment:

  • This position is performed in a typical office environment. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally exposed to moving mechanical parts and vehicles. The noise level in the work environment is usually quiet to moderate.
