WEBINAR DESCRIPTION 
This webinar will be presented from the viewpoint of a general contractor, subcontractor and professional estimating firm. It will identify how an estimate can be formulated and developed into a proposal to present to a customer. The ABC Emerging Contractors Manual will be used as a reference, with all materials reviewed in detail. Additional forms will be supplied as tried and true samples to supplement those provided in the manual. The sections covered in both Webinars from the manual include: Estimating and Bidding Operations; Select Subcontractors and Suppliers; Evaluating Projects Critically; and Selecting Projects Carefully.

ABOUT THE SPEAKERS
Pat Oda has estimated and managed the construction of commercial public and private building projects in Washington State and Oregon for over 35 years. Pat has been an instructor in the Supervisory Training Program and Construction Technical Skills with Associated General Contractors of Washington. Pat has also volunteered as an instructor for ABC Western Washington, School of Construction Management. In addition, Pat has been an active member of ABC Western Washington’s Diversity committee since its inception in 1997, chairing that committee for several years.

Melody Derrick is a Project Manager with over fifteen years’ experience in public and private commercial construction with both small and large general contracting firms.  Currently working primarily in tenant improvements in both estimating and project management roles, Melody has also worked on ground-up retail and multi-family projects in the greater Seattle area.  Melody has also served on the Diversity Committee at ABC’s Western Washington chapter where she mentored women and minority-owned businesses. 

James Walsh is the owner of Finishing Systems, a commercial paint contracting firm in Washington State. James has owned and operated a restaurant, a pre-finishing shop that supplied prefinished and pre-machined doors and has operated one of the first asbestos abatement companies on the west coast. He also organized the first public asbestos worker certification program to meet Washington State standards. James has also served on the Diversity Committee at the ABC Western Washington chapter where he partnered with other industry leaders to mentor women and minority-owned businesses.

Rory Woolsey has worked in Management and Engineering for the construction industry for over 30 years, starting as a construction laborer. He has since held positions as a field engineer, project manager, MIS manager, testing laboratory manager, estimator, senior editor, designer, structural engineer, and general contractor.  He is currently a Project Manager with The Gordian Group. He has given over 7,000 classroom hours of instruction nationally to architects, engineers, contractors, and facility managers on topics of project management, CPM scheduling, construction estimating, facility maintenance, partnering, and leadership. Mr. Woolsey has earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering and a Masters in Business Administration, with an emphasis in construction project management.
