Gov. Terry E. Branstad (R-Iowa) proclaimed October Careers in Construction Month in a brief signing ceremony at the ABC of Iowa workshop in Grimes, Iowa. The governor praised apprenticeship programs such as ABC’s, “While they learn, they can also earn a salary, and that’s one of the benefits. You don’t end up with a bunch of debt like a lot of college students end up with today."

Along with Iowa, 18 states have proclaimed October Careers in Construction month: Alabama, Alaska, Arizona, Arkansas, Idaho, Illinois, Indiana, Michigan, Mississippi, Nevada, New Mexico, North Carolina, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, South Dakota, Tennessee, Wisconsin and Washington, D.C. Throughout the month, schools, contractors and organizations partner locally to host events or activities that introduce students to rewarding construction careers.
