Nonresidential construction spending fell 1 percent on a monthly basis in November, but has still managed to expand 4 percent on a year-over-year basis according to the January 2nd release from the U.S. Census Bureau. Spending for the month totaled $617 billion on a seasonally adjusted, annualized basis. Moreover, the government revised the October spending figure up from $611.8 billion to $622.9 billion.

Nonresidential construction spending bounced back in October, expanding 1 percent on a monthly basis and 4.3 percent year over year, according to a Dec. 2 release from the U.S. Census Bureau. Spending for the month totaled $611.8 billion on a seasonally adjusted, annualized basis. Additionally, the government revised the September spending figure up to $605.8 billion from $596.1 billion.

Nonresidential construction spending slipped 1 percent in September but has still managed to expand 4.2 percent on a year-over-year basis, according to the Nov. 1 release from the U.S. Census Bureau. Spending for the month totaled $596.1 billion on a seasonally adjusted, annualized basis while the government slightly upwardly revised the August spending figure from $603.7 billion to $601.9 billion.

Nonresidential construction spending slipped in August, according to an Oct. 1 release from the U.S. Census Bureau. Nonresidential construction spending shrank 1.2 percent on a monthly basis in August, but has still managed to expand 6 percent on a year-over-year basis. Spending for the month totaled $603.7 billion on a seasonally adjusted, annualized basis. The government also revised the July spending figure down from $617.8 billion to $611.3 billion.

Nonresidential construction spending expanded strongly in July, growing 2.5 percent on a monthly basis and rising a robust 8.6 percent on a year-over-year basis according to a Sept. 2 release from the U.S. Census Bureau. Spending for the month totaled $617.8 billion on a seasonally adjusted, annualized basis. The government also revised upward a somewhat disappointing June nonresidential construction spending estimate from $589 billion to $603 billion and the estimate for May from $606 billion to $611 billion.

Nonresidential construction spending fell in June after posting significant growth during the prior two months, according to the Aug. 1 release from the U.S. Census Bureau. Nonresidential construction spending fell 2.8 percent on a monthly basis in June, but has risen 4.6 percent on a year-over-year basis. Spending for the month totaled $588.8 billion on a seasonally adjusted, annualized basis, while the government revised the estimate for nonresidential construction spending in May from $596.2 billion to $605.6 billion.

Nonresidential construction spending expanded in May for the second consecutive month (based on revised data), according to a July 1 release from the U.S. Census Bureau. Nonresidential construction spending rose 1.1 percent on a monthly basis in May and has increased 6.4 percent on a year-over-year basis. Spending for the month totaled $596.2 billion on a seasonally adjusted, annualized basis. Additionally, nonresidential construction spending for April was revised upward from $570.6 billion to $589.9 billion.

Nonresidential construction spending expanded by 0.4 percent on a monthly basis in April and has risen 3.9 percent on a year-over-year basis. Nonresidential construction spending fell 0.1 percent on a monthly basis in March but has risen 4.4 percent on a yearly basis according to a May 1 release by the U.S. Census Bureau. Nonresidential fixed investment decreased 2.1 percent and residential fixed investment fell 5.7 percent during the first quarter, according to an April 30 release by the Bureau of Economic Analysis. Overall, real gross domestic product (GDP) expanded just 0.1 percent (seasonally adjusted annual rate) during the first quarter of 2014 following a 2.6 percent increase in the fourth quarter of last year.
