Construction Spending Rises in October; Flat Year-Over-Year

WASHINGTON, Dec. 1 – Nonresidential construction spending rose 2.1 percent in October, totaling $717.6 billion on a seasonally adjusted basis, according to an Associated Builders and Contractors (ABC) analysis of data released by the U.S. Census Bureau. The level of spending, however, remains virtually unchanged from a year ago.

Construction Input Prices Flat in October; Year-over-Year Inflation Remains

WASHINGTON, Nov. 14—Construction input prices remained unchanged on a monthly basis in October, according to analysis of today’s Bureau of Labor Statistics release by Associated Builders and Contractors (ABC). Overall construction input prices have expanded 4.3 percent year over year, while nonresidential input prices have expanded 4.1 percent since October 2016. Crude petroleum prices rose 6.6 percent for the month and are up 7.7 percent for the year. No other input manifested significant price growth in October.

Construction Numbers Stagnant in Otherwise Positive October Jobs Report, Says ABC

WASHINGTON, Nov. 3—According to an Associated Builders and Contractors (ABC) analysis of data released by the Bureau of Labor Statistics today, the nation’s construction sector added 11,000 net new jobs in October, matching the revised total from September. Nonresidential construction employment, however, experienced a net decline of 2,000 jobs. The residential sector added approximately 13,000 net new jobs.

However, nonresidential construction spending is down 2.9 percent on a year-over-year basis, with construction spending related to manufacturing down 20.3 percent since September 2016

WASHINGTON, Oct. 27—The U.S. economy expanded at an annual rate of 3 percent during the third quarter of 2017, according to Associated Builders and Contractors’ analysis of gross domestic product (GDP) data released today by the Bureau of Economic Analysis. “Construction firms are among the major beneficiaries of the most recent GDP report, which confirms that the U.S. economy enjoys a level of momentum not observed for several years,” said ABC Chief Economist Anirban Basu.

Construction Input Growth Accelerates in September, says ABC

WASHINGTON, Oct. 12—Construction input prices rose yet again in September, according to an analysis by Associated Builders and Contractors (ABC) of data released today by the Bureau of Labor Statistics. Non-residential construction input prices rose 0.8 percent in September and 4.3 percent compared to this time last year. 
Overall, construction materials prices rose 0.8 percent over the previous month and 4.5 percent on a year-over-year basis, about three times as fast as overall U.S. inflation.

Nonresidential Construction Adds Jobs Despite Disruptions; September Data Very Difficult to Interpret

WASHINGTON, Oct. 6—The national construction industry added 8,000 net new jobs on a seasonally adjusted basis in September, according to an analysis by Associated Builders and Contractors (ABC) of today’s release from the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics. The nonresidential sector added 11,700 jobs for the month, which means that residential construction lost several thousand jobs. Nonresidential specialty trade contractors paced the segment, adding 8,500 net new jobs on a monthly basis.

WASHINGTON, Sept. 13—Construction input prices rose 0.6 percent in August and are up 3.7 percent on a yearly basis, according to an analysis by Associated Builders and Contractors (ABC) of data released today by the Bureau of Labor Statistics. Nonresidential construction input prices behaved similarly, rising 0.6 percent for the month and 3.5 percent for the year.
