WASHINGTON, D.C., Dec. 3 – Associated Builders and Contractors (ABC) member Rich Shavell, CPA, CVA, CCIFP, today told a U.S. House of Representatives subcommittee that small businesses need relief from onerous tax policies and a growing regulatory burden in order to succeed and create jobs. Shavell testified before the Subcommittee on Economic Growth, Tax and Capital Access at a hearing titled “Tax Extenders and Small Businesses as Employers of Choice.”

WASHINGTON, D.C., Nov. 23 – Associated Builders and Contractors (ABC) today announced that Shon Smith, prefabrication manager at ACI Mechanical, Inc. in Ames, Iowa, has been named ABC’s first Young Professional of the Year. Smith was among three finalists for the award chosen based on their career achievement, leadership and vision for future industry enhancement from a field of more than 100 nominations.

Finalists were chosen based on their career achievement, leadership and vision for future industry enhancement from a field of more than 100 nominations representing 47 ABC chapters and more than 80 member companies.

Associated Builders and Contractors (ABC) announced the first 10 winners of the Build Your Future Scholarship through ABC’s Trimmer Construction Education Foundation (TCEF). The scholarships are awarded to the top 10 students attending an NCCER-accredited program or a state/federally approved apprenticeship program in a merit-shop training facility. The scholarships are funded through a pledge of $100,000 from NCCER over the next five years.

Sacks currently works as a transmission and distribution training manager at CIANBRO in Pittsfield, Maine. He received the honor March 6 during ABC’s National Craft Championships (NCC) and Workforce Conference in Fort Lauderdale, Fla.
