In addition, ABC produces the Construction Backlog Indicator, the only economic indicator that reflects the amount of work that will be performed by commercial and industrial construction contractors in the months ahead, and the Construction Confidence Index, a diffusion index that signals construction contractors’ expectations for sales, profit margins and staffing levels. Associated Builders and Contractors Announces National Diversity Excellence Award Winners

FORT LAUDERDALE, FLA., March 3– Associated Builders and Contractors (ABC) today announced that it has awarded National Diversity Excellence Awards to four member companies: Hensel Phelps, Wu & Associates Inc., Mechanical Engineering & Construction Corp. and United Rentals Inc. Representatives from each company received the award on March 2 during ABC’s 26th annual Excellence in Construction® Awards in Fort Lauderdale, Fla.

“Associated Builders and Contractors honors the National Diversity Excellence Awards winners for making diversity a business priority and striving to achieve a fully inclusive and culturally competent workforce,” said 2016 ABC National Chair David Chapin, president of Willmar Electric Service, Lincoln, Neb. “These companies demonstrate their commitment to shaping an industry that is welcoming to all people where employees and suppliers are limited only by their own potential.”

The ABC National Diversity Excellence Awards program recognizes members that display exemplary diversity leadership in their workforce, supply chain and community with best-in-class recruitment policies, retention practices, and training and mentoring programs.

Awards are given out in four categories:
  • General Contractor Over $33 million: Hensel Phelps, Greeley, Colo.
  • General Contractor Under $33 million: Wu & Associates, Inc., Mount Laurel, N.J.
  • Subcontractor: Mechanical Engineering & Construction Corp. (MEC2), Catonsville, Md.
  • Supplier & Associate: United Rentals, Inc., Stamford, Conn.
