ABC issues news releases on the latest workforce, policy and industry issues, as well as construction-related economic data and trends. Commercial and industrial construction economic analyses include federal data on construction spending, employment, job openings and the Producer Price Index. 

In addition, ABC produces the Construction Backlog Indicator, the only economic indicator that reflects the amount of work that will be performed by commercial and industrial construction contractors in the months ahead, and the Construction Confidence Index, a diffusion index that signals construction contractors’ expectations for sales, profit margins and staffing levels. ABC and Synergis Team Up to Deliver BIM Training for Contractors

Associated Builders and Contractors Blasts Unprecedented Change to Senate Rules and Procedures

Associated Builders and Contractors (ABC) today expressed concern over a controversial change in U.S. Senate rules and procedures that will allow the majority party to skirt a filibuster to confirm certain presidential appointments.  Traditionally, 60 votes have been needed to confirm nominees and pass legislation, but by invoking this unprecedented rule change along partisan lines, the majority has lowered that threshold to a simple majority of 51 votes.

Construction Materials Prices Fall Slightly in October

Construction materials prices fell 0.2 percent in October and are down 0.3 percent year over year, according to the Nov. 21 Producer Price Index released by the Department of Labor. Nonresidential construction materials are down 0.5 percent for the month and are unchanged from the same time one year ago.

ABC Foresees Additional Recovery in Nonresidential Sectors Next Year

Associated Builders and Contractors Files Suit Against OFCCP Rule

Associated Builders and Contractors (ABC) today filed a request for an injunction in the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia against an Aug. 27 rule from the U.S. Department of Labor’s Office of Federal Contract Compliance Programs (OFCCP) that drastically alters federal contractors’ existing affirmative action and nondiscrimination obligations for individuals with disabilities.

Construction Employment Extends Winning Streak in October

National construction employment expanded by 11,000 jobs in September, according to the U.S. Department of Labor’s Nov. 8 jobs report. Nonresidential construction employment gained 6,400 positions. The national construction unemployment rate stood at 9 percent in October on a non-seasonally adjusted basis, down from 8.5 percent in September and 11.4 percent at the same time last year.

Third Quarter Nonresidential Fixed Investment in Structures Rises 12.3 Percent

Fixed investment in nonresidential structures and intellectual property grew 12.3 percent and 2.2 percent, respectively, in the third quarter, according to the U.S. Commerce Department’s Nov. 7 report on gross domestic product (GDP). However, the growth was tempered by a 3.3 percent decline in fixed investment in nonresidential equipment.
