ABC’s Construction Backlog Indicator Plummets in August; Contractor Confidence Down

WASHINGTON, Sept. 14—Associated Builders and Contractors reports today that its Construction Backlog Indicator fell sharply to 7.7 months in August, according to an ABC member survey conducted Aug. 19 to Sept. 1. The reading is down 0.8 months from July 2021 and down 0.3 months from August 2020.

Monthly Construction Input Prices Inch Lower in August, But Are Still Elevated Year Over Year, Says ABC

WASHINGTON, Sept. 10—Construction input prices declined 0.6% in August compared to the previous month, according to an Associated Builders and Contractors analysis of U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics’ Producer Price Index data released today. Nonresidential construction input prices fell 0.4% for the month.

Nonresidential Construction Loses 20,300 Jobs in August, Says ABC

WASHINGTON, Sept. 3—The construction industry lost 3,000 jobs on net in August, according to an Associated Builders and Contractors analysis of data released today by the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics. Despite the monthly setback, the industry has recovered 881,000 (79.2%) of the jobs lost during earlier stages of the pandemic.

Nonresidential Construction Spending Weak in July, Says ABC

WASHINGTON, Sept. 1—National nonresidential construction spending expanded 0.1% in July, according to an Associated Builders and Contractors analysis of data published today by the U.S. Census Bureau. On a seasonally adjusted annualized basis, nonresidential spending totaled $786.7 billion for the month.
