Information on PPACA, Including a Summary of Employer Coverage Requirements

On Nov. 20, HHS published proposed rules on essential health benefits and determining actuarial value, and on health insurance market reforms. In addition, the IRS, Employee Benefits Security Administration and HHS’ Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services issued a notice of proposed rulemaking on wellness programs in group health plans. ABC and Coalition Call on Congress to Stop Scheduled Estate Tax Hike

As part of the Family Business Estate Tax coalition (FBETC), ABC Nov. 15 sent a letter to members of Congress urging them to pass legislation addressing the estate tax before the end of the year. Barring congressional intervention, the resurgent estate tax rate and diminished exemption would saddle thousands of family-owned businesses with a crippling tax increase.

Circuit Court Decision Negates Prevailing Wage Law in Lansing, Mich.

The ABC Greater Michigan Chapter celebrated a victory Nov. 16 when the Ingham County Circuit Court found the city of Lansing’s prevailing wage ordinance was unlawful only the state is the only entity that has the authority to regulate wages and benefits.

During its Nov. 13 meeting in Austin, Texas, the ABC Board of Directors elected Greg Hoberock of hth companies, inc. in Union, Mo.,  to serve as the association's national chairman in 2013. Dan Brodbeck, of Compass Partners LLC in Brentwood, Tenn., is chairman-elect.
