SAN ANTONIO, March 17—Associated Builders and Contractors today announced the winners of the Excellence in Construction® Awards—96 projects worth a total of $3.8 billion—during ABC Convention 2022 in San Antonio. The EIC awards are the construction industry’s leading national competition that honors general and specialty contractors for world-class, safe and innovative construction projects from across the nation.

“The Excellence in Construction Awards are a hallmark competition in our industry, honoring creative projects that exemplify the best of the best in construction,” said 2022 National Chair of the ABC Board of Directors Stephanie Schmidt, president, Poole Anderson Construction, State College, Pennsylvania. “This year’s standout projects include a COVID-19 mobile treatment facility constructed in just a few days, a cultural incubator to preserve the heritage of a Native American tribe, a massive Byzantine Romanesque university performing arts center and a brand-new U.S. courthouse. These exemplary projects show the diversity of what the construction industry builds—and how crucial the industry is in creating the places where Americans live, heal, work and play.”

The EIC awards honor every member of the construction team, including the contractor, owner, architect and engineer. The winning projects are judged on complexity, attractiveness, unique challenges overcome, completion time, workmanship, innovation and safety.

A panel of industry experts served as the competition’s judges. This year’s judges included representatives from the Smithsonian Facilities Construction Division, Construction Management Association of America, Engineering News-Record, Design-Build Institute of America, University Research Institute and various construction-related firms nationwide.
