2013 STEP Applications Now Available

The 2013 Safety Training Evaluation Process (STEP) applications are now available and have been mailed out to all ABC chapters and contractor members.  Download a PDF version of the STEP application here.

STEP applications are accepted year-round by ABC; however, in order participate in ABC chapter safety events, applicants should submit a completed application package to their local ABC chapters by their chapter’s deadline.

ABC's STEP program recognizes the efforts of ABC members who consistently strive to achieve effective best safety practices on jobsites and provides contractors with a tool to objectively evaluate their safety programs, policies and procedures.

Applications are evaluated and awarded either Participant, Bronze, Silver, Gold, Platinum or Diamond status based on the applicant’s score on the “20 Key Components,” ABC’s innovative safety evaluation system.  STEP Gold, Platinum and Diamond status are based on 20 Key Components scores, as well as incidence rates and Experience Modification Rates (EMR). New in 2013, companies under 50 employees may now use a 5-year Total Recordable Incidence Rate average to qualify for STEP Gold, Platinum or Diamond.

By participating in the STEP program, ABC member companies become eligible to apply for Accredited Quality Contractor status.  In addition, STEP Platinum and Diamond recipients are eligible to apply for the prestigious National Safety Excellence Award, presented annually at the Excellence in Construction Awards ceremony at ABC’s BizCon in February, as well as the Construction Users Round Table Construction Industry Safety Excellence (CURT-CISE) award.
