ABC celebrated the achievements of one young professional and two university groups at its Nov. 16. Future Leaders Awards Luncheon during ABC’s Leadership Week in Dallas. Brooke Wenger, director of business development at Triad Engineering Inc., a member of the ABC Cumberland Valley Chapter, won ABC’s second annual Young Professional of the Year Award; Colorado State University won the 2016 Construction Management Competition; and Texas State University was named 2016 ABC Student Chapter of the Year.

ABC’s Young Professional program was founded in 2014 and aims to shape the future of the construction industry by supporting the growth of professionals under the age of 40 who are employed by ABC member companies. Wenger was among three finalists for the Young Professional of the Year Award chosen from a field of more than 30 nominees representing 20 ABC chapters across the country. In addition to the award, Wenger received $1,000 and will be interviewed for a feature story in Construction Executive magazine.

The 2016 Construction Management Competition, sponsored by Autodesk, Construction Executive magazine, Procore and RS Means, featured teams from 23 universities. Each team provided a price and technical proposal for this year’s project, the construction of two separate 40,000-square-foot, single-story offices and clinic spaces for the University Medical Center Far East and Neighborhood Healthcare Center West in El Paso, Texas, before competing in a spontaneous exercise led by the competition committee. Top teams were interviewed by the committee, and the Colorado State University team was selected as the winner based on its presentation along with the grades for estimating, project management and scheduling, safety and quality control.

The ABC student chapter at Texas State University was named the 2016 Student Chapter of the Year for its accomplishments in programming, community service, communications and public relations and interaction with its sponsor, the ABC Central Texas Chapter, during the academic year. The student chapter received a $2,000 cash prize, complimentary registration, hotel accommodations and airfare for two members to attend ABC’s 2017 Legislative Week in Washington, D.C., June 19-23, 2017, and coverage in ABC National publications.
