The Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) Aug. 7 posted an enforcement policy on its website, effective immediately, that clarifies it will not apply the provision under its revised hours of service (HOS) rule that requires drivers to take a 30-minutes break for every eight hours of consecutive driving to short-haul drives.

As part of a deal to avert a “nuclear option” to end filibuster rules in the U.S. Senate, the nominations of Richard Griffin and Sharon Block to the NLRB were withdrawn. Griffin and Block were two of the members illegally recess appointed to the board by President Obama in 2012. They were renominated by the president in February. 

For more than three years, ABC has advocated for the repeal of the complex and costly employer mandate included in the Affordable Care Act. On July 2, the Obama Administration finally acknowledged employers’ concerns about implementing the burdensome requirements in a timely and effective manner. 

The U.S. Court of Appeals for the Third Circuit May 16 ruled that President Barack Obama’s recess appointments to the National Labor Relations Board (NLRB) between March 2010 and January 2012 were unconstitutional. The ruling, which supports a Jan. 25 decision by the U.S. Court of Appeals for the D.C. Circuit invalidating the January 2012 recess appointments of Democrats Sharon Block and Richard Griffin, also invalidates the March 2010 recess appointment of Craig Becker. 

The National Hispanic Contractors Association and ABC will be holding concurrent Legislative Breakfasts on June 12 and afterward, members of both groups will visit their legislators to discuss key industry issues. 

ABC’s 21st Century Workforce Development Conference, held April 30-May 3 in Birmingham Ala., drew nearly 1,000 attendees to its various Academies, competitions, career fairs and awards programs.

On April 24, the U.S. Departments of Homeland Security (DHS) and Labor (DOL) jointly published an “emergency” interim final rule, effective immediately, on how the wages for temporary non-agricultural H-2B workers should be calculated.
