ABC’s Chesapeake Shores, Greater Baltimore and Metro Washington chapters collaborated with the University of Maryland, Baltimore to celebrate the graduation of 138 industry-registered construction apprentices representing six trades during a ceremony on May 22. 

ABC announced its support of S. 904, the Voluntary Protection Program Act (S. 904), introduced by Sen. Mike Enzi (R-Wy).  S. 904 would make the Department of Labor’s Voluntary Protection Program a permanent program.

ABC hosted a golf tournament May 6 to benefit Folds of Honor, a charitable organization that Major Dan Rooney established 12 years ago to provide educational scholarships to spouses and children of America’s fallen and disabled service members. Since 2017, ABC’s tournament has raised $375,000 for Folds of Honor.

ABC has added Massachusetts Chapter member Brian Renaud of The Contractors Plan to the Beam Club Presidential level and Greater Houston Chapter member Terry Buza of Slack & Co. Contracting Inc. to the Beam Club Hall of Fame level.

This year, ABC of Greater Houston is celebrating 50 years of supporting the merit shop construction industry. On Thursday, April 25, members and community leaders gathered to commemorate the accomplishments of past chapter leaders and celebrate the chapter’s successes. Houston Mayor Sylvester Turner issued a proclamation in honor of the anniversary and declared April 25 as “ABC Houston Day.”

On Wednesday, April 17, ABC President and CEO Michael Bellaman joined Carolyn Lee, executive director at The Manufacturing Institute; Karen Pittman, co-founder and CEO of the Forum for Youth Investment; and Carrie Schwab-Pomerantz, board chair and president of the Charles Schwab Foundation, for a Boys and Girls Club of America panel, Building a Diverse Talent Pipeline: The Policy and Business Case. 

ABC is observing Construction Safety Week 2019 from May 6-10 with an awareness campaign highlighting member achievements in safety performance and our collective commitment to creating the conditions for all to do their work without incident and go home safe and healthy every day.

ABC will be celebrating the seventh annual Infrastructure Week, May 13-20, with an awareness campaign highlighting the critical importance of infrastructure to America’s economic competitiveness, security, job creation and in the daily lives of Americans. The future of America will be shaped by the infrastructure-related choices we make today—so let’s all prepare to #BuildForTomorrow!

From interviews to editorials and many articles in between, Women in Construction Week, March 3-9,  showcased the voices of women from all areas of the construction industry. 

ABC is hosting the upcoming webinar, “Understanding the Impact of OFCCP’s Recent Policy Changes on Federal Contractors” at 2 p.m. EST on Tuesday, March 19. Lance Gibbons, Shareholder at Littler Mendelson P.C., will lead the webinar and discuss recent activity at the Office of Federal Contract Compliance Programs and what federal contractors need to know.
