ABC’s vice president of regulatory, labor and state affairs did a radio tour last week during the annual Conservative Political Action Conference. Speaking with The Epoch Times from the convention floor, he discussed the advantages of a career in the construction trades. Brubeck also discussed project labor agreements and prevailing wage issues in four additional interviews.

The ABC Southern California chapter hosted their 25th annual craft championships on Saturday Jan. 26, 2019. Along with the craft competition, there were over 500 visitors, 22 vendors, a nine-team chili cook-off, a high school visit with hands-on activities presented by chapter instructors and demonstrations from Job Corps and ABC Southern California.

ABC has added six members to the Beam Club Presidential level for recruiting between 25 and 49 new members. The Beam Club was established in 1966 to recognize ABC's top membership recruiters for their commitment to growing the association. The AQC program recognizes and honors construction firms that document their commitment to excellence in five key areas of corporate responsibility: quality, safety, employee benefits, training and community relations. A company that meets these criteria and has earned Safety Training Evaluation Process (STEP) Gold, Platinum or Diamond status, is formally designated an “Accredited Quality Contractor.”

The 2018 Design-Build Project award winners were announced at an awards dinner during the Design-Build Conference & Expo, Nov. 7-9 in New Orleans. From university buildings to bridge replacements, this year’s winners are some of the best construction projects in the country. Several ABC members are part of award-winning teams and were honored by DBIA for their accomplishments.

The ABC Western Michigan Chapter announced its first-ever construction technology and innovation conference, which will be held on Tuesday, Feb. 19, 2019, in Grand Rapids, Michigan. Nearly 350 construction industry professionals from cities across the country will gather to be inspired by numerous education sessions, exhibitor displays and live demonstrations—all centered around the advancement of technology.

National Apprenticeship Week is a week-long celebration that encourages workforce leaders to demonstrate their commitment to apprenticeship and educate those around them. NAW also gives apprenticeship sponsors the opportunity to promote their programs, facilities and apprentices in their respective communities. 

Apply for the ABC National Diversity Excellence Awards by Sunday, Nov. 25. Winners will be recognized during ABC's National Excellence in Construction® Awards, acknowledged at the 2019 Diversity & Inclusion Summit and more. Additionally, members who create an inclusive culture by improving the work experience for the disabled are encouraged to submit comments on the Excellence in Disability Inclusion Award by Dec. 4, 2018.

Dwana Grace and Stacia Brightmon, apprentices from ABC member S&B Engineers and Constructors, attended an event at the White House on Oct. 31 to highlight the Pledge to America’s Workers, which continues to gather commitments from the business community to expand workforce development.
