LISTEN: How to Design an Effective Technology Adoption Strategy
On May 13, former Navy pilot and defense executive Mike Garcia (R) scored an impressive 10-point victory to win California’s 25th Congressional District after Democrat Kristy Smith conceded the race.
Rep. Garcia’s win was no small feat, as Hillary Clinton (D) carried the district in 2016 before Democrats flipped the seat in 2018, along with the U.S. House of Representatives. The 25th Congressional District has been without representation since October 2019.
Garcia will head to Washington to fill the vacant seat that Rep. Katie Hill (D) resigned from late last year, which triggered this special election. Rep. Garcia becomes the first Republican to flip a Democratic U.S. House of Representatives seat in the state of California since 1998.
Rep. Garcia was sworn in on May 19 along with the other Republican special election winner from last week, Rep. Tom Tiffany (R-Wis.). Garcia was endorsed by ABC PAC and the ABC Southern and Central California chapters.
Rep. Garcia will be on the ballot again this November, and will face the same opponent, California General Assembly member Kristy Smith.
