ABC recently announced it will be moving its annual ABC Student Chapter Construction Management Competition (CMC) and Career Fair to the fall beginning in 2014. As part of the transition, these events will be held twice in 2013, in both the spring and the fall.

Before the decision was made, ABC polled the CMC Committee, students and advisors about moving the CMC and Career Fair to the fall to better place students in jobs and internships for the upcoming year. During the polling process, ABC determined that there was a need to run the program twice in 2013 to ensure that graduating students and alternates would not be disenfranchised during the transition. After 2013, the CMC and Career Fair will only be held once in the fall of 2014.

The 2013 spring competition and career fair will be held during the 21st Century Workforce Development Conference, in Birmingham, Ala., April 29-May 3, 2013. The competition and career fair will follow the typical pattern of prior years, which can be found on www.abc.org/studentchaptercmc.

The schedules for the 2013 fall competition, Career Fair and ABC’s Leadership Institute will be determined at a later date, but the Institute meeting will be held Nov. 5-7, 2013, in Las Vegas.
Student chapters may participate in one or both competitions and career fairs next year. Intent to compete forms for the spring CMC are due Dec. 12.

ABC’s Student Chapter Management Competition features teams of four college and university students testing their project management, estimating and presentation skills. The Career Fair connects top-notch construction students with construction companies who are looking to hire them.
