On April 22, 218 members of the U.S. House officially signed onto legislation (H.R. 928) that seeks to repeal the health insurance tax (HIT). The HIT is a measure of the Affordable Care Act (ACA) that increases premiums for coverage from the fully insured market, where almost 90 percent of small businesses purchase health coverage.

ABC supports repeal of the HIT and is a member of the Stop The HIT Coalition, which seeks to relieve small businesses of this unnecessary financial burden. The coalition sent a letter to House leadership urging them to bring the repeal bill to a vote.

The letter notes that with the milestone of 218 cosponsors achieved, the time has come to make a meaningful change for American small businesses struggling under the weight of new health care costs. ABC, along with fellow Stop The HIT members representing millions of employers across the country, urges leadership to repeal this tax on Main Street.
