The ABC Georgia Chapter celebrated a victory May 6 when Gov. Nathan Deal (R) signed into law S.B. 179, which prohibits government entities from mandating project labor agreements (PLAs) on state-funded construction projects.

This law ensures government neutrality and free and open competition on government contacts, including construction of the new Atlanta Falcons’ stadium, which was rumored to potentially be subject to a PLA mandate.

“This is a great victory for ABC,” said ABC Georgia Chapter President Bill Anderson. “It not only guarantees merit shop contractors the right to participate on state-funded projects, but also protects the right of Georgia’s taxpayers to get the best construction at the best price.”

Georgia is the 16th state to ban government-mandated PLAs on state-funded construction and the 12th to do so since 2011.
